Description

Tour description:

Impressive waterfalls thundering into the valley, gentle alpine pastures that spread out, imposing glaciers and steep slopes make the tour a varied nature experience. The Zillertal Alps and the Hohe Tauern National Park offer breathtaking views over what is probably Austria’s most impressive alpine region.

Day 1
Impressive hiking experience right at the beginning of the hike into the Krimmler Achental, the longest and highest valley in the Venediger group. The thundering waterfalls plunge over 380 m to the valley and are therefore the highest in Central Europe. At the end of the waterfall path, the beautiful alpine landscape spreads out with a wonderful view of the glacier of the Krimmler Keeses and the origin of the Krimmler Ache. Today’s stage destination, the Krimmler Tauernhaus, 1,623 m above sea level, is reached after approx. 4 hours. Overnight with half board.

Day 2
Strengthened after an excellent breakfast, the 2nd stage leads across the Austrian-Italian border, crossing the Birnlücke to reach the Birnlückenhütte (2,441 m) in the South Tyrolean Ahrntal after approx. 4 hours. The hut is picturesquely situated at the foot of the eternal ice of the Dreiherrenspitze. Overnight with half board.

Day 3
Today’s hike leads from the Birnlückenhütte in South Tyrol back to Austria over the historic Krimmler Tauern, on over the Windbachscharte to the Richter Hütte (2,347 m), today’s destination of the hike. The hut is located in the middle of the Reichenspitz group with the Reichenspitze (3,303 m). The stage is physically challenging with approx. 5 ½ hours of walking and approx. 11 km. Overnight stay and half board at the Richter hut.

Day 4
A wonderful hike leads over the Rosskarscharte to the Upper Wildgerlos Lake. With the option to climb the Rosskopf beforehand (2,845 m). From the Upper Wildgerlos Lake, the route continues to the Lower Wildgerlos Lake, where today’s destination, after about 5 hours of hike, is the idyllic Zittauer Hut. Overnight with half board.

Day 5
After breakfast, today’s and last stage leads from the Zittauer Hütte down over the Leitenkamersteig with the Leitenkamer Gorge to the Trissl Alm (1,584 m). Continue over the Breitscharte to the Plattenkogel and the goal of the Gerlosplatte – Filzstein. Possibility to take the public bus back to Krimml.
